Lij Tekle and his friends from Europe are proud to release this new video entitled "Birtu Kahen" to commemorate our patriots who are thrown to jail to serve unjust and unlawful sentences and in some cases with no charges. Their sacrifice is not in vain. We will fight till we see justice and democracy prevail in Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian Human Right Comitee (Germany) holds a candle light vigil for Ms Birtukan Mideksa and other prisoners of conscience in Teubingen, Germany.
The Free Birtukan and all Prisoner's of Conscience in Ethiopia organization campaigned for Ms Birtukan Mideksa in San Jose, California during the 2010 soccer tournaments organized by the ESFNA. Organization chapter members from Washington DC, Atlanta, San Diego, Los Angeles, and other cities converged in San Jose to sign petitions, sell T-shirts, and raise awareness of the unjust imprisonment of Ms Mideksa.
It is to be recalled that Ms Birtukan Mideksa was arrested and thrown in prison for life on December 29, 2010 and spent the first six months of impriosonment in Solitary Confinement. Ethiopians since have been expressing their outrage over her imprisonement and showing concern over her worsening health and over the refusal by the government to allow her visitors.
July 18 marks the first Nelson Mandela International Day. It was last November that the United Nations General Assembly adopted a special resolution declaring July 18th an international Mandela day to be observed annually.
